Charity Focus: Goods For Good

Goods for Good (G4G) partners with local nonprofits that provide critical care to economically disadvantaged, underserved, and vulnerable communities in the Washington area. 

Creating service opportunities for volunteers and supporters to address specific needs of youth, families, and seniors, G4G focuses on those who are homeless and house insecure, food insecure, and survivors of domestic violence. A recent project to create a toy pantry for refugees settling in the D.C. area, primarily from Afghanistan, provides children in transition with tools to be inspired, creative, comforted, and entertained.

D.C. Leaf Collection

Did you know leaves can clog storm drains, cause street flooding, and eventually pollute the Chesapeake Bay and other local waterbodies? Proper leaf collection and disposal are important practices that help make our rivers and streams healthy.

The D.C. Department of Public Works recently announced the 2022-2023 leaf collection schedule for residents who receive trash and recycling services.  Pick up begins Monday, November 7, 2022, and goes through Saturday, January 28, 2023. 

District households serviced by DPW are asked to rake leaves into the tree box (or at the curb in front of their home where there is no tree box) on the Sunday of the week of their scheduled collection.

October Happenings: District Developments

The opening of the newly renovated National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall is October 14, and you can click here for timed-entry tickets.

The Rubell Museum DC, which will open to the public on October 29, includes a collection of more than 7,500 works of contemporary art. Located at 65 I Street Southwest, less than a mile from the U.S. Capitol and National Mall, the new museum is housed in the historic former Cardozo Elementary and then Randall Junior High School, and features 32,000 square feet with exhibition galleries, public programming, and a café with indoor and outdoor dining.
